Data sources and licences

KiezPilot holds no place data of its own. Every place, event, course, photo and weather reading comes from the sources listed below. For each one this page names the publisher, the dataset, the licence, the attribution the licence requires, whether we adapted the data, how often we fetch it, and what it does not cover.
The text in the "Attribution" column is what the app and this website display alongside the data. It is not translated, because it is part of the licence condition.
How we use the data
Open government data
Berlin's departments and the federal government publish datasets through daten.berlin.de, the Geoportal Berlin and GovData. We fetch those datasets automatically, select the family-relevant entries, map them onto our own category structure, derive the Ortsteil with PostGIS and add English translations. Names, addresses and coordinates stay as published.
OpenStreetMap
Most of the places in KiezPilot come from OpenStreetMap, an open database maintained by volunteers. We query it through the Overpass API, filtered to family-relevant tags. The Open Database License requires us to credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors and to link to the copyright page. Both appear on every place that came from it, and on this page.
Venues' own websites
For some places we read facts (opening hours, phone number, age ranges) from the venue's own official website. Before each fetch we check that domain's robots.txt; if it disallows access, the page is not read. We take individual facts, never text, and link the source on the place. The same applies to sports clubs' websites.
Photos
Photos are not ours. Every photo carries, in the app and on this website, the licence and the creator that belong to that exact file. On the public pages at kiezpilot.com we show a photo only when we hold its licence; if the licence is unknown, no image is shown. We do not re-host photos, we load them from the source. The "Image source" link under each photo leads to the page that states the terms.
Weather
Weather and official severe-weather warnings come from Germany's national weather service, Deutscher Wetterdienst, fetched through the Bright Sky API. Under the German geodata regulation (GeoNutzV) the DWD requires the notice "Quelle: Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD)" wherever its data appears.

Icons and software
The icons in the app come from temaki (CC0 1.0), Material Design Icons (Apache 2.0) and lucide (ISC). None of these licences requires visible attribution in the app; we list them here anyway. Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap (see above and Privacy Policy, section 2.5).
Corrections
If something on this page is wrong, an attribution is missing, or a photo should be taken down: hello@kiezpilot.com. Please say which place or which file you mean. We look at every report and, in case of doubt, take an image down before the rights question is settled.
